Eating nuts increases the chances of survival in patients with colon cancer

According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, regular consumption of nuts significantly increases the life-cycle of people with stage III colon cancer.

The study was conducted by researchers at the Yale Cancer Center who examined the effect of nut consumption on the recurrence and survival of colon cancer.

Course of the study :

As part of this study, the research team examined 826 people with stage III colon cancer. Participants reported their dietary intake on food frequency questionnaires.

At the same time, they were enrolled in a randomized adjuvant chemotherapy trial. The research team followed participants after six and a half years on average after being treated with surgery and chemotherapy.

The results of the study showed that cancer patients who ate two or more servings of nuts each week had a 42% improvement in disease-free survival compared to those who did not eat nuts.

As the researchers analyzed the results, they found that disease-free survival increased by 46% in nut (nut and oilseed) consumers who consumed nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, cashew nuts and pecans ...

More reasons why you should eat nuts

Nuts are technically considered a fruit, although they are not sweet and rich in fat. The nuts most consumed are almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios and nuts.

Nuts are very nutritious, which is one of the reasons why you should eat more often. Nuts are also low in carbohydrates and an excellent source of nutrients such as magnesium, manganese and selenium.

Another reason you should eat nuts is because they are packed with antioxidants, which help fight the free radicals that harm the body. Nuts can also help you lose weight, manage cholesterol and triglyceride levels, reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
