5 health problems causing swollen ankles, how to cure them

Ankles and swollen feet are quite common conditions, especially when you spend a long time standing up. However, when your ankles or feet remain chronically swollen and even with pain, this may indicate a more serious health problem.

If you can not get your feet properly because of swelling in your ankles, you may need to consider the possible causes of this problem. There are many, we present a selection of the main causes, in addition to a natural remedy to treat the problem.

1. Side effects of drugs:

Many drugs have the side effects of water retention that is manifested by swelling.

The types of drugs that can cause swelling include anti-inflammatory drugs

(steroids and NSAIDs), hormones, medicines for people with diabetes,

antidepressants ...

2. Venous insufficiency:

Swelling of the ankles and feet is often an early symptom of venous

insufficiency. It is the result of an alteration of the vein wall which causes an

insufficient return of blood to the heart. Blood stagnates in the lower limbs,

causing heaviness and pain.

3. Clots in the blood:

Like venous insufficiency, blood clots that form in the veins can stop blood

flow from the legs to the heart and cause swelling of the ankles and

feet. Blood clots can be either superficial (occurring in the veins under the

skin) or deep (a condition known as deep vein thrombosis).

4. Pregnancy complications:

Some swellings of the ankles and feet are normal during pregnancy. However

sudden or excessive swelling may be a sign of pre-eclampsia, a condition that

is characterized by high blood pressure and the appearance of protein in the

urine after the 20th week of pregnancy.

If you experience severe swelling or swelling with other symptoms such as

abdominal pain, headache, frequent urination, nausea and vomiting, or

changes in vision, seek immediate medical attention.

5. The lack of rest:

When you do not rest enough, it can also cause some swelling, also caused

by fluid retention. This is the sign that we do not rest very much or that we

feed ourselves badly. To relieve such a problem, you must reduce your

consumption of sodium, sugar and flours and do not forget to sleep between 6

to 8 hours a day.
