200 million euros in compensation for a testicular twist ... Being aware of it can make a major difference!

200 million euros is the sum that a doctor from Marseille had to pay to his patient for having operated too late a twisting testicles. This has had the effect of making it sterile.

Quentin, a 30-year-old man, who suffered the same condition in 2015, could also have experienced the same mishap. But fortunately for him, he escaped beautiful!

The worst just missed:

As Quentin himself says: "I remember it as if it were yesterday, I woke up with a start at 6:15 am, with the sensation that I was squeezing the testicles in one hand. I tried to go back to sleep, telling myself it was going to happen, but no. "

He still tried to go to work. But arrived there, the pain became untenable, so with his colleague, they decide to call SOS doctor.

"It was very painful. The more hours passed, the more I felt that a weight of five, then ten kilos hung on my testicles, "says Quentin.

"The problem in these situations is that it is always a bit of a nuisance to ask the doctor to check. In the end I did well because I was supported after five hours, while I risked necrosis after the sixth, "says Quentin, relieved.

If patients are at high risk with testicular twists, doctors face enormous challenges in diagnosing the condition. This is what Maxime, urologist at the Marseille hospitals explains:

"Every time you have to diagnose a testicular twist, it's anxiety. Testicular pain can be linked to many things, and it is very difficult to be sure that this is all about it. "

What are the signs of testicular torsion?

Most people do not know that 4 in 10 young men with testicular torsion will lose the affected testicle.

Twisting causes testicular pain. If you have it without getting medical attention within a certain time, you could lose the testicle.

The most recurrent sign of testicular torsion is sudden, severe pain on one side of the scrotum.

The testicles should be the same size. If one side quickly becomes larger than the other, this can be a problem.

Changing the color of the scrotum, especially redness or darkening, is also a problem. From the beginning, there may be no swelling.

But very soon after, the skin of the scrotum will swell and turn red. You may also feel nauseated and start to vomit.

Any pain or discomfort in the testicles is a sign for seeking emergency medical help. Call your doctor even without swelling or discoloration.

Slow pain in the testicle over several hours or days may be a sign of twisting.

Twisting tends to occur on the left side more than on the right. Most often, the twist is only on one side. Only 2 men out of 100 with torsion have it in both testicles.
