The liver is the largest internal organ of the human body and one of the most important for survival. Without it, the body tissues will die from lack of nutrients and oxygen, and the digestive process could not take place either.
One of the most important functions of the liver is the elimination of toxins from our system. This can be hindered by the accumulation of large amounts of waste and other harmful substances. For this reason, it is necessary to clean the liver from time to time.
What is a liver cleanse?
Sometimes referred to as "liver detoxification", liver cleansing involves following a regulated diet over a period of four to five days and ending with a "rinsing day". The goal of liver cleansing is to reduce or eliminate toxins in the liver, so that it can effectively perform all its functions.
Follow these steps for a complete liver cleanse:
Days 1-4: Foods to eat
To promote cleansing of the liver, there are specific foods for the liver that can help digestion and promote a healthy evacuation of toxins from your body. These foods contain vitamins and minerals, namely potassium, which is related to healthy liver function.
1. Breakfast:
Start each morning (between 8am and 10am) with a glass of water and apple cider vinegar, accompanied by a small bowl of fresh fruit juice. Choose only one fruit for this meal. Watermelon is an excellent choice because of its water and fiber content. Other choices that may be beneficial are papaya, kiwi, plums, pears, apples, cherries, figs and grapefruit.
Snacks:
To get more nutrients into your system while cleaning, eat a handful of nuts or seeds and drink a glass of your apple cider vinegar and water mixture. Choose only one type of nut or seed. Good choices include: sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds.
2. Lunch:
Around noon, take a soup or liver cleansing juice. The soup is ideal for cleansing the liver because it is digestible and very nourishing. Find below a recipe for liver cleansing soup.
