Menthol cigarettes will soon be completely banned

New laws on cigarettes and tobacco should be in place from next May, which could have a significant effect on smokers.

It will not be possible to buy smaller packs of cigarettes, so even the smallest bags of tobacco will be banned. Menthol cigarettes will eventually be completely eliminated as experts say they encourage smoking. In addition, the packaging will also be reconfigured.

What to expect?

As new laws come into effect, you will not be able to buy smaller packs of cigarettes, and small bags containing less than 30 grams of rolling tobacco will also be banned.

From May 21st, the cheapest pack of cigarettes will cost £ 8.82. Menthol cigarettes, which experts say have often been aimed at novice smokers, will be phased out.

In addition, in an attempt to make tobacco less attractive to younger generations, attractive branding on packages will also be prohibited. Thus, cigarette packs will have to be simple, with graphic images that show people the impact of tobacco on health.

Certain flavored cigarettes and rolling tobacco, including fruit, spices, herbs, alcohol, sweets or vanilla, will also be made illegal.

According to recent statistics, tobacco accounts for about 1 in 10 deaths worldwide. So all measures aim to limit the incidence of tobacco on the new generation, with two-thirds of smokers starting to smoke before they turn 18.
